Preparation for your procedure:

1: Treat it like a normal day off work. Eat breakfast or lunch just as you normally would. Take all normal medications.

2: Shave the front of your scrotum a few days prior to the procedure. If you do not feel comfortable doing this, we will shave prior to the procedure.
3: No Aspirin or blood thinners for 7 days prior to the procedure.

4: Bring a signed copy of the consent form
5: Plan to take the rest of the day off and relax at home.

After the Procedure

1:  Rest.  Take it easy for the rest of the day.  Walking around and spending time with family is fine but please refrain from running, jumping, or lifting more than 5 lbs until pain has resolved.  Wear supportive underwear.

2:  Use Anti-inflammatories, such as Aleve and Ibuprofen to help with pain.  Use may also use Tylenol or the pain medications that you were prescribed.  You do not have to use ice or “frozen peas” but some patients can benefit from this as well.

3:  You may return to work the next day.

4:  Please wait to exercise or have sex until 5 days after your procedure and once your pain is gone.

5:  Remember the procedure is not considered complete until we have a negative semen sample 3-4 months after your procedure.  Sometimes it can take longer for the semen sample to be negative.
